Sociology is a subject of social life, change, causes, and consequences of human behavior. Understanding Groups, societies, community, their formation, working and behaviors, the impact of factors like politics, religion, families, etc. are studied by a student of sociology.   • Eligibility: Ph.D. in sociology.
  • Salary starts from 6 lakhs/annum and goes up to 10 lakhs with experience.

  • Social worker

Social works are people who help other people in terms of their social issues such as unemployment, civil rights, abuse and harassment, disability, work and compensation, mental health-related stigma, etc. They are experts in their field and can help you connect with the right people. For example, a person abused needs support and representation. Social workers can introduce them to the right lawyer or direct them to the right department and procedures.

  • Skill: Memory and empathy are the two most important skills for this job
  • Eligibility: M.A Sociology
  • Salary: Average salary is around 2 lakhs per annum. Working in metropolitan cities can increase the salary up to 5 lakhs/annum.

  • Market research

Market researchers gather data to analyze the types of products and services people needed. They can work for a private company.

  • Skill: observation and analytic mind are the key skills needed.
  • Eligibility: MA Sociology.
  • Salary: Average earning is around 2 lakhs/annum. Metropolitan cities pay up to 3-4 lakhs/annum.

  • Law services

Any individual that studies law and uses it for the benefit of people is a lawyer. They provide legal advice or represent your cases at the court. A person with a sociology degree can sign up for a law degree and become a lawyer. The sociology background is preferred by many firms.

  • Skill: Curious and objective mind
  • Eligibility: BA sociology + LLB and certification exam.
  • Salary: They earn around 5 lakhs/annum. In metropolitan cities, it increases to 8 lakhs/annum.

  • Urban and regional planner

They use the land to convert it into a complete town or village. They are responsible for the development of a place. The job involves planning and mapping an area to make people’s life comfortable and better in terms of space.

  • Skill: designing and creativity
  • Eligibility: BA sociology and MA in Planning/design/geography.
  • Salary: earn around 5 lakhs/annum. For metropolitan cities goes up to 7 lakhs/annum.

  • Counseling and therapy

Counseling and therapy are associated with Psychology. That’s not the case. These 2 fields accept entries from the stream of sociology too. Since sociology involves understanding people and their problems. Several Self-help groups have group therapy which can be done by a sociologist.

  • Skill: Listening and patience
  • Eligibility: MA sociology + training
  • Salary: 1 lakh/ annum to 5 lakhs per annum
