What is the importance of making correct decisions about your career? Why is it that you have to think a lot before proceeding with anything for your future?
Well in these times where everyone is worried, stressed out, and confused about making any decision in their life, students (the future of our country) are the ones who are confused the most about what to do in their future, what to opt as their career. It is not only the students but their parents as well. The majority of the students follow their friends in some of the important decisions like choosing a particular stream in high school to a job they want to make future in. They are also influenced by the rat race wherein they follow the trends like the stream/course that is popular or is opted by the majority.
But this is wrong!!!
Choosing a stream is the first step in making your career in the future and it has to be done with rational thinking and understanding all the possible options, we generally consult our friends and family for making such decisions but you may see the elders would likely promote their field and so you get a bit of biased advice and so you don’t get an appropriate opportunity to explore all the streams or career options.
This is where professional advisers and experts come into play.
WHAT IS CAREER COUNSELLING/GUIDING?
Career counselling is one of the best services started for anyone who is confused about taking any decision regarding jobs, change in the field of work or students who are just starting their career by choosing any particular stream in school. Counselling refers to the process of helping a person by providing guidance, moral support, and exploring solutions for the problems being faced. It is generally a process wherein a professional help out an individual in coming to a conclusion that is the best option for him/her. This professional is someone who understands human behaviour, their personality, and knows how to give the right direction to their thoughts. This professional is a person you can reach out to in times of uncertainty, and who makes sure that your identity and problems remain confidential. Career counsellors who give you advice are the experts in their particular field and so helps you explore that field in all sense explaining its pros as well as cons, hence helping you to arrive at the best result.
HOW CAN A COUNSELLOR HELP YOU?
There are various ways in which a counselor can help a Counselee. The first and foremost thing is a counselor always provides a safe and friendly environment for the person to open up and ask anything without getting judged. They help you to examine yourself in every possible way so that you get a record of your interests, weaknesses, and strengths so that your energy can be channelized into something productive as well as of your liking. They also conduct some relevant career assessments/tests to understand your thinking patterns, to advise you of something of your interest. They also help you to boost your confidence and insight and to believe more in yourself and your capabilities; all this also helps you in personality development as well as to get rid of unwanted behavioral practices. The counselors provide you with the best expert resources which ultimately help you to lose your career-related frustration hereby bringing stability to your thoughts; as choosing a career without proper guidance could be a quite tiring and frustrating process.
The prime age for getting counselling is considered between 13 to 18 years as it is just the beginning of the career for students. But only students don’t need to require counselling, you may need guidance at any stage in your life like you to need to know all possible options you can work in before changing your field and even parents sometimes need counselling to understand their child’s thinking about his/her career.
CONCLUSION
SO, I would like to summarize this by saying that career counseling helps as a helping hand and always tries and give the best available options for anyone in any field of their desire and so you should not just follow anyone blindly rather consult the professionals as it is the matter of your future.
