CHOOSE THE TEMPLATE WISELY:

Have you ever wondered how much time an HR spends reading one resume? The answer is six seconds on average, and at every position you apply for, you compete with 250-300 candidates. Now imagine how outstanding your resume needs to be to grab HR’s attention. A CV or a resume with poor formatting, spelling mistakes, or wrong information will definitely get rejected.

Here is the proper order that you should put the sections in your resume. Start with a header and your personal details ( make sure to hyperlink your accounts ), followed by a summary, objective, work experience, education, skills, and end with a section on your projects or extra-curricular. If you are a freshly graduated student with no industry experience, put education before the work section.

Is Your Resume Not Getting Shortlisted?

  • A well formatted CV/resume should have clear fonts like Times New Roman, Helvetica, Arial, Sans-serif, etc.
  • Keep the font size between 11 and 12, and keep the letter spacing at 1 or 1.5.
  • Set uniform margins.
  • Make the headings bold, position names italic, and other content normal.
  • Do not add weird graphics, keep it minimalistic.
  • Do not add any photos.
  • Keep it brief and to the point.
  • Spelling mistakes are a big no-no!

THE SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE SECTION:

After you have listed your personal information, it is time to focus on the summary. This summary or objective should be customized every time to the job position you are applying for. This is the place where you get to show the interviewer that you are very interested in that company and are worthy.

An objective in the resume shows the interviewer what skills you have mastered and how you can be the best fit for the job. Adding an objective is a good choice for you if you don’t have much work experience that is relevant to the position you are applying for. A summary, on the other hand, shows the interviewer your career progress, goals, and achievements. Use it only if you have a lot of professional, industrial experience in your field. Make sure to include what you can offer the company.

WORK EXPERIENCE

This is the most important section of your CV or resume. This is what the interviewers actually pay close attention to.

I Want To Become Good Better Best In Life

Here are a few points to keep in mind while listing your previous work experiences:

Focus on the measurable aspect and the relevant achievements, not just the duties. Include numbers in the form of statistics and percentages. Try to incorporate great action verbs like created, analyzed, managed, organized, implemented, etc., and avoid words like had, did, etc.

Tailor your resume to the job position. Read the job description very carefully and understand the tasks that the company will expect from you. If you have done any such duties previously, add them to your resume. Do not write fake experiences because the interviewer will ask questions about the project you were doing. When you display your previous work experience carefully, the interviewer will believe that you are the right fit for that particular position as you have relevant experience. Another tip that you should keep in mind is – use action words to shorten the sentence and save space. Avoid writing full sentences like “I was responsible for.. “

EDUCATION SECTION

If you have just completed a Bachelor’s degree or high school, keep the education section above work experience because you might not have the relevant work experience. If you have also done post-graduation, just mention it and your undergraduate degree. Leave out your high school in that case. Make sure to follow a reverse chronological order while listing your education or work experience.

Mistake In Resume As A Fresher

After these mandatory sections, you can include a section on your skills, projects, hobbies, etc., if you have space. Don’t make your resume cluttered. This additional section can also have your awards, webinars, and conferences. Any competitions that you won or your publications can also be mentioned. You can take the help of a career guide or the various online websites that offer templates for making your resume. These are well formatted and can help you make a beautiful and appealing resume.
