Schools are often referred to as the second home of a child. A child is said to gain his foundation of personality development and social development in school. Schools are indeed ensured with not only the academic education of a child but also building the child into a responsible human being.

Therefore with such an important responsibility to behold and with a major number of hours that a child spends in the school, school environment and approach can play a major role in influencing the child in a very rigid way. We have often heard that the lessons of moral values and self confidence is taught when the child is in school.

But are the lessons given, the only way of learning. A child tends to be creative when it comes to learning a particular behavioral aspect and developmental aspect. He not only depends on the lessons for learning that but also uses his observation power to learn things.

Although it might seem like a very light matter, but a child is very conscious about his school environment and remains so for a major part of his school life. This is the time when the teachers, the students all unknowingly play the biggest role in building his character. Therefore schools should take this more responsibly and sensitively. In today’s society the pace of the competition is so fast that the society has a tendency to put unbearable pressure on the child and put an additional amount of criticism at each and every small failure.

The schools in the recent years have taken up that approach which is immensely unhealthy and dark for a child. It can do a lot more harm to a child than it seems to do. A child if criticized and compared with the other students at every step by the teachers themselves, the child can develop a severe tendency of low confidence and escapism. The child can not only lose confidence in his academic abilities but also in his individual capabilities.

Continuous discouragement can also kill the child’s will to improve and sometimes throws him out of the way to a healthy self. Schools, mostly the teachers often discriminate the students on the basis of marks and academic skills which is another unhealthy point. The value of an individual cannot be calculated on the basis of a single ability of his depending on a single test. This can make him give up and accept the failure without even trying.

A teacher should help improve and give courage to a student in a time of need so that he can get motivated to try and do better. The continuous academic pressure and the age old preaching the superiority of mainstream education and the continuous stricter regulations on female uniforms from a very young age can also create a sense of inferiority and defiance, normalizing and making them view the wrong in the right light which can not only be a factor in school life but can stick to him for his entire life as an individual.
