Introduction

Italy is considered the fashion capital of the world, but it’s not limited to that. Italy’s education system is ranked 23rd in the world as of 2021. It is one of the 4 countries that engaged in creating the “European Area of Higher Education”. It offers higher studies in all streams, be it Science, Engineering, European studies, Business, Finance, Psychology, Language, etc. The top three universities – Politecnico di MilanoAlma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, and the Sapienza University of Rome are ranked under 200 in the world!

Italy also has a variety of attractions for international students. Let’s discuss a few of them.

LOW TUITION FEES

Most of the Universities in Italy are public, meaning they charge very nominal tuition fees (€400 – €3500). There are a few private Universities too, but most of them are public and cost very little. 

AMAZING SCHOLARSHIPS

Universities in Italy are categorized into regions like Lazio, Edisu, etc., which offer a scholarship of approximately €5200 i.e., 4,20,000 INR. These are given to students interested in studying for Bachelors’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. These are regional need-based scholarships. It is awarded to the students having an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) less than €15000. The students who benefit from these scholarships get their tuition fees waived off and, some Universities also offer discounts on food & accommodation.

NO IELTS REQUIRED

If you completed your education in English, you won’t have to submit your IELTS or TOEFL scores. All you need to do is ask your school to issue a Medium of Instruction Certificate. It should state that all your communication, lectures, and examinations were held in English. It can be issued by the head of your School for free and needs to have the official letterhead of your School as well as the signature of the head.

Documents Required(For Indian Citizens)

The application process is lengthy and a little complex, so here’s a list of documents you will need (For Indian Citizens):

BACHELORS:

  • Class 12th Result and transcript
  • Class 11th Result and transcript
  • Class 10th Result and transcript
  • Passport
  • Passport Size Photo
  • Aadhar Card
  • Statement of purpose ( 700-900 words)
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • CV
  • Medium of Instruction Certificate
  • A short video explaining why you want to join that University and that course
  • SAT, IELTS, or TOEFL scores if you have them already

Documents Required

Admission Process

The complete admission process for Non-Europeans (Residing Abroad) consists of 4 steps:

  1. Application or Pre-selection: Wherein you apply to multiple colleges and wait for their decision. Some colleges might ask you to appear for an entrance test or an interview. The interview could be a general one (mostly for bachelors) or a technical one (mostly for masters).
  2. Pre Enrollment: Once you have got in, you have to register on a website – University where you have to fill a form stating the course and college you selected, choose an Italian embassy according to your region and upload your Offer letter. If the University accepts your application, they will forward it to the Italian embassy you selected.
  3. Scholarship Application: This step goes simultaneously with the Visa application process as both the Scholarship application portal and Embassies open around June. In this process, you have to prepare your Income documents, Property Documents and, Bank statements and get them legalized.
  4. Visa Application: For a Visa application, you need to prepare additional documents like sponsorship letters, bank statements, ITR, Cover letter, Accommodation proof, Flight ticket proof, and Medical Insurance proof. Once you are ready with all these documents, you can visit your nearest VFS application center and submit them. Now all you have to do is wait for an outcome.
