At the same time, as a Psychiatrists one is permitted to individually function on their own by setting up their own clinic. To become a psychiatrist , after completing the MBBS degree  one can go for a post graduate degree (MD) or diploma in psychiatry.The MD course is of three years duration while the duration of diploma course is two years. Apart from these courses one can also join the DNB course organized by the National Board of Examination which is equivalent to an MD. Entry into post graduate courses is on the basis of all India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination.
