Hello There! Glad that you approached Mera Career Guidance for seeking guidance and help in removing your career confusion. I am sure that you will definitely find your career path way by the guidance from experts here.

I am an educationist and have been counselling for more than seven years to the aspirants of commerce / law / management streams and I have also been involved into teaching and writing on career management for magazines, newspapers which are published all over India. You can view my articles through a normal google search of my name.

From your query I understand that you have done your commerce graduation and score 48%. 48% is just two percent below the fifty percentage mark. I do not personally feel that this is a problem for pursuing further post graduate education or diplomas. However it is a fact that there are majority of courses which require min. fifty percentage in a course for admission to the further courses. However if you belong to the reserved class, there is a concession of five percent for admission to further courses. If you are not from reserved class, then I think you should go for MCom course or professional courses like Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy or Company Secretaryship where the min. percentage required for admission is forty (40) or forty five (45) percent only.

I would like you to understand that securing forty eight percent is not an end to career and education in any way. However by now you must have come to know that percentage below fifty or fifty five percent is not competitive and it becomes difficult to pursue the future course of action due to low marks. Due to this you must have also understood how important are marks and studying sincerely and seriously. I hope you will now get up and study sincerely and seriously so that such situation of low marks and percentage does not arise in future.

I would suggest not to loose hope and determination. You can surely have a bright career, provided you do some job oriented course, study hard and sincerely and with full dedication. As suggested you can do the professional courses.

If you are interested in law, you can join LLB course and become a lawyer or work for a lawyer firm or work in a BPO or a legal department of any company.

Best Luck.

Hello!

Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. I see you have already been guided well by one of our counsellors, Mr Anand Wadadekar over this matter. I totally agree with him, that a 48% is not the end of your life but you should have understood by now what sort of score this competitive world requires. I would like to guide you through on the types of education and related careers. Before that please check if you fall under reservation quota. SC/ST candidates are given some flexibility. Also if you are a female, some universities may still consider you offering admissions.

First I would like to take you through the broad study options after a BCom degree. Have a look at the picture below.
Unorganised Sector
You have two routes after a BCom degree. One is the usual Post graduation courses route and the other route is the professional courses pathway. Lets consider each study options and career prospects in brief.

1. MCom: Mcom is the most common choice for students after a BCom degree. Completing an MCom, you could be placed in entry level careers in education and industry sectors. The roles are wide too and it largely depends on the type of elective you choose in your MCom. You could either work for banking industry or educational sectors as a Teacher at schools. If you aspire becoming a Lecturer or a Professor, you can certainly become one after your MCom but you should also be qualified for a NET/SET exam in India.

2. Master of Financial Management: This course leads a career into finance industry. You can take Finance Manager roles in banking and IT industries.

3. MBA: It is advised to study an MBA after a couple of years work experience to give you better job prospects and a good salary hike. Commerce students can choose MBA electives in Accounts, Finance, Marketing and HR. MBA in e-commerce is also good for commerce backgrounds. Depending on your elective, you are likely to be placed.

In case you would like to apply for Professional courses, you have three options. CA, ICWA, CS.

4. CA- Chartered Accountancy. It is a reputable professional degree and equivalent to PhD in other subjects. Yes, you could regard CA as a Doctorate degree in Commerce subject though officially it is not regarded as a PhD. Completing a CA, you have bright prospects with the BIG Four companies like PWS, Ernst & Young, Deloitte and KPMG. CA, Auditers are in high demand here and they could easily draw an annual pay of minimum 6lakh with a CA qualification.

5. ICWA - It is a degree just sub to the CA, like MPhil to the PhD. They have similar prospects like CA offers in big four companies or other commerce and finance companies.

6. CS- Company Secretaryship. This is an overall administration role and jobs are abundant in education, and a few industries like manufacturing sectors. To become a CS, you need to pass the CS qualification. It does require work experience to be able to study this qualification.

Hope you have a better picture now. All the best. Do well!
