WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) Medical Entrance Exam has been replaced by the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical and Dental Courses in India. NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and there is no upper age limit for appearing in the exam.

NTA (NEET) : The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an autonomous organization that conducts various National-level Entrance Exams in India, including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to undergraduate Medical & Dental Courses in colleges and universities of India.

  • The NTA was established in November 2017 as an independent and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Ministry of Education (formerly known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development). Its primary objective is to conduct efficient, transparent, and standardized entrance exams in a secure and safe environment using the latest technology.
  • Apart from NEET, the NTA also conducts other national-level entrance exams such as Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) for admission to engineering courses, Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission to Management Courses ,National Eligibility Test (NET) for recruitment of assistant professors and research fellows, and many more.

WBJEE : The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for admission to various undergraduate courses offered by colleges and universities in West Bengal.

The WBJEE is conducted once a year in offline mode, and the exam consists of two papers - Paper 1 for Mathematics and Paper 2 for Physics and Chemistry. The exam is based on the syllabus of the 10+2 level, and the questions are of multiple-choice type. The total duration of the exam is 4 hours, and each paper is of 2 hours duration.

To be eligible for WBJEE, a candidate must meet the following criteria :
  1. Citizenship : The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  2. Age : There is no upper age limit for WBJEE, but the candidate must have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.
  3. Educational Qualification : The candidate must have passed or appeared in the 10+2 Examination from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry/ Biotechnology / Biology /Computer Science /Computer Application as optional subjects. The candidate must also have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 45% (40% for reserved categories) in the above subjects taken together.
  4. Exam Pattern : The WBJEE exam consists of two papers – Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry). Both papers are conducted in offline mode (OMR-based), and each paper carries 100 marks. The duration of each paper is 2 hours.
    • The questions asked in the exam are of multiple-choice type, with four options provided for each question, and the candidate has to select the correct answer. There is a negative marking of 1/4th marks for every wrong answer, while no marks are deducted for unanswered questions.
  5. Cutoff : The WBJEE cutoff is the minimum score required by a candidate to be eligible for admission to various Undergraduate Courses in Engineering , Pharmacy, and Architecture in Colleges And Universities of West Bengal . The cutoff score for WBJEE is released after the declaration of the result and it depends on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the availability of seats, etc.
  6. Counselling : The counseling process for WBJEE is conducted in online mode, and the candidates are required to register themselves for the counseling process on the official website of WBJEEB. The counseling process involves the following steps:

  4. Reporting to Alloted College
  • During the counseling process, the candidates are required to submit their documents for verification and pay the counseling fee. The seats are allotted to the candidates based on their rank, category, and preference of college and course.
