You have not mentioned here in what examination you have got 60% marks. Is it a graduation for which you acquired above mentioned marks? And if it is a graduation then yes, you are eligible for appearing in the Civil Services Exam. Appearing for the UPSC-CSE (Civil Services Exams), i.e. IAS exams, one requires to have only a bachelor degree from any stream with simple passing. There are no specific requirements of percentage to become eligible for appearing in the IAS exam. So even a simple passing with 40% marks would work!

 

The eligibility criteria come in the official notification of the UPSC-CSE gets published every year on its website and in the national daily newspapers. There has clearly been mentioned that the candidate needs to have a valid bachelor degree from a recognized university to become eligible for Civil Services Exam.

Eligibility For UPSC CSE-IAS Exam

  • A candidate need to possess bachelor degree from any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Candidate can appear for the examination even if he/she is appearing for the final year of the graduation provided the candidate would produce the provisional/final degree certificate to the the panel of interview.
  • A candidate should have completed 21 years of age.

You can read some basic reference material like, Newspapers, NCERT textbooks, some standard periodicals (Magazines) and start watching news bulletin and some important discussions on television, etc.

Civil Services Exam is essentially a competitive exam where lakhs of aspirant compete with each other to get qualified for the next level of the exam. Therefore you are supposed to study thoroughly for relatively a longer period of time. The exam takes a complete year. The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) is the final authority for the selection procedure and the matters therein. The Exam is being held in three stages – Preliminary Test, Mains, and Personality Test. The preliminary is an objective test whereas the Mains is a descriptive exam. The final result is based on the score in Mains and the Personality Test. In this exam, you have to study for various subjects like History, Geography, Economics, Science and Technology, Indian Polity, Environment, Ethics, etc. apart from just mentioned general studies subjects you will have to choose one optional subject from a given list. Thus, this exam requires one to study for various and diverse issues.
