A dietician can act as a Nutritionist but same is not true in a reverse way as Dietician should have therapeutic sense which is not required for a Nutritionist.
Dietician needs to have thorough knowledge about the diseases and the effect of food on it-as clients' food habit sometimes acts as an augmenter of many diseases -so every time clients are required to restrict their natural food habits according to the advise of physicians and dieticians.
A Nutritionist generally concerns about the general health, obesity and maintaining of figure-nowadays people want to stay active, healthy, lean and looking attractive figure wise- nutritionist will be a great help in this aspect-it has no linked in therapeutic practice.

HI There,

Interesting question. The answer to your question lies in the title itself.

Both a nutritionists as well as a dietitian are responsible for helping individuals maintain good or rather healthy eating habits by maintaining a proper diet.

Though the difference is negligible, but in-case if you wish to see the minute difference.
In layman's term, when we wish to loose weight we opt for a dietitian, whereas knowing the nutrient content is the work of a nutrient.
In directly it is the same person who alternatively assumes the role depending on the client and their issues.

Initially, fitness was associated with the term Nutritionists, mainly for the athletes. Their fitness regime is mostly monitored through a Nutritionists.

And we as layman who are diet conscious approach a dietitian.

But please note they are the same term and profession.
Since even to loose wight we need to know the nutritional value so that we do not fall unhealthy.

Hope this clears the terminology. Also please note that in terms of qualifications, there is no separate course. University provides them as a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, a 3 years course

Wish you good luck....

Dear Aspirant,

I agree with Ms. Meghna.

Nutrition and Dietician are almost the same. Nutrition is about telling people which food will give you what while Diet means how much to eat and in what way and who should eat what, etc.

Both are related to the food intake.

Best wishes

Dear Aspirant,

Let me add more to gain clarity. Dieticians and Nutritionists are not same. Though the degree remain the same the profession and the role of dieticians and nutritionist differ. Dietician role is restricted to hospitals, hotels, weight lose clinics. They know more about clinical nutrition and therapeutic nutrition. A nutritionist's role is more diverse in a way. They can move into an array of fields such as scientific research, development field (NGOs, UN organisations), food industry, health care centres, sports complex.

Best Wishes,
