Hello there! Looking at your query I can definitely say that you have touched upon a very important aspect of education, especially for Cost Accountants. I am glad that you approached CareerGuide.com for seeking clarification to this very good and unique career query.

I am an Educationist and have been involved in career counselling for many students from commere / law / management stream and also I have been involved in teaching and writing on career management for many years for reputed newspapers and magazine all over India.

I suppose that you are already a Cost Accountant or may be on the verge of completing it soon. As you may be aware that a Cost Accountant (CWA) is a professional in the industry very much involved in the accounting and cost department of the organisation. CWAs are at par with CAs as far as the statutory requirement is concerned under the Law and there are good number of opportunities and career scope for a cost accountant.
An MBA is a management person who is taught the business management aspects which are very necessary to run the business organisation. MBA is a non-technical course and gives the much required information and knowledge required for businesses today to grow and manage. MBA is a qualification which if acquired through only a reputed business school can give you the required competence and skill.

Generally what I have observed till now that, majority of CWAs pursue Chartered Accountancy as their second added qualification and Chartered Accountants pursue Cost Accountancy as their second added qualification. I have also seen that many CAs pursue MBA Finance. so I do not find any reason for CWAs NOT doing MBA Finance as an addition and strong qualification!

As for CAs, CWAs also have a great chance to become MBAs and lift their career graph and also get a diverse qualification and knowledge. CAs+MBA or CWA+MBA is a wonderful combination and can definitely fetch good job profiles and salary packages in the corporates.

If as a CWA, if one does an MBA Finance, the candidate can definitely climb the management cadre like Manager, VP, etc. An MBA with CWA/CA definitely gives the candidate a strong career growth and diversification into management of business.
