It deals with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders in person. In Psychiatry, Medical therapies are applied to attach the organic source of the diseases. After the Physical and Behavioural sypmtoms are diagnosed, drugs and other means are used for treatment.

To become a Psychiatrist, one should attend the medical school and receive an MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree, after the MBBS. One could also do a diploma in Psychiatric medicine (DPM) from a recognised educational institute to become a qualified psychiatrist. A Candidate has to acquire an MBBS degree from a Medical college and appear for a post graduate examination to study Psychiatry as a subject of Specialisation. There are two options they may either do a post gradaute course MD in Psychaitry or a diploma in Psychiatry(DPM). The MD course is of the three years duration while the diploma course is of two years. Besides, one can also join the DNB course organised by the National Board of Examinations which is equalent to na MD. The course also includes practical training at mental hospitals. Many of them work in REhabilitation centrs to rehabilitate drug addicts, Dipsomaniacs, Juvenile delingquents and other with other occupational therapists and Social workers. They are appointed in Private hospitals, Clinics and Helath Institutes. Many polyclinics also recruit Psychiatrist to counsel patients to attend to various Psychological Problems. You can also start Private practice at home or by opening their own clinics. You can also work as counselor in schools, colleges, phospitals, courts, prision and even for NGO's and large scale industries. you can also have the option of chossing teaching this subject as a career.
