People generally develop a myth that MBA is relevant to only those involved in banking, finance, administration and the services industry. Not to be forgotten, Tourism industry is indeed a service industry. So I would highly accept that doing an MBA is definitely valid in the tourism industry. However people working in the tourism sector can actually take advantage of two different types of MBA programs.

1. General MBA:
For someone who works in the administrative department within a tourism company, doing a general MBA with either accounts/ finance/ human resources will be of a great help. This way you can enroll for the regular MBA course with either of the above mentioned specializations across any business school in India.

2. MBA in Tourism and management:
For someone who wishes to work in the decision making board within tourism sector, or for someone whose job is more strategically inclined, an MBA in Tourism and management will be highly advisable. This MBA will equip you with both management concepts and travel management theories. This MBA will also take you to leadership positions within the travel and tourism sector. Not many people in India is aware of this MBA specialization. Doing this MBA will prove useful to one's career in tourism management.

Syllabus:
MBA in Tourism and management will offer exceptional knowledge in managing the tourism sector strategically. As part of the MBA, you are likely to study the following contents in your MBA syllabus.
1. Indian society and culture;
Important monuments of India,Monuments of Delhi, history of India, Indian art culture and tradition, Dances music sculptures of India, how to draw up programs or itineraries, Do's and donts at monuments.

2. An overview of tourism travel and hospitality industry:
Elementary knowledge of travel and tourism business, Frontier formalities, aviation industry, Indian railways, surface transportation and sports tourism.

3. Managerial & behavioural skills:
Handling emergencies, interpersonal behavior & group behavior, etiquetteand manners, public speaking and presentation.
Institutions:
The following list of institutions offer the MBA in Tourism and management in India.
1. Indian institute of tourism and travel management (Goa, Noida Nellore, Bhubhaneshwar and Gwalior campus)
This university offers earn while you learn scheme, where you can be placed in a tourism sector even while studying to earn some part time money.
2. Lovely professional university Panjab
3. Amity school of hospitality Noida/NCR
4. IAM- Institute of Hotel management (Goa, Kolkatta and Guwahati)
5. International institute of business management New Delhi
6. Dr YSR National institute of tourism and hospitality management
7. Nalanda school of management college

Again, doing MBA while being in tourism industry is definitely valid and MBA in Tourism and management is a good choice.
