Its good that you wanted to follow your heart by choosing "Fashion Designer" as a Career than your existing "Bankers" Profile.

There are few things to be followed before choosing your Career.

1. Find out your hobbies and make it as your career field:
Even after spending 5 Years in Banking Industry if you doesn't like your job and feels like to shift your career from banking to fashion designing, it seems to be your hobby or interest in particular field. So you can start your career as a "Fashion Designer" even now. But till the time you get stable Income Source it will not been advisable to quit your current job.

2. Try to understand the scope of the field of your interest:
Fashion: we all know what fashion is. We all are very well aware about it and we all are somewhere or the other related to it. We all love to look good and looking good makes us feel confident and make us feel good about our self. Fashion in not just about clothes. Many people they have misunderstood fashion and they think that fashion is just about clothes and what you wear. Definitely clothes are manor part of fashion but it is not the entire thing. The overall outlook of a person is called fashion.

Fashion designing is a very vast field and you have tremendous scope in it but before that you need to be particular on the are you wanted to be specialized. You could be fashion stylist, an illustrator, fashion consultant, cutting assistant, sketching assistant, fashion stylist, textile designer or fabric designer, colorists, fashion merchandiser, visual merchandiser etc.

3. Get yourself Certified:
So get yourself updated with the "Industry Requirements" one must pursue some of the certification courses or diploma courses into a "Fashion Designing".
These Certification Courses or Diplomas are short term courses of duration 3 Months - 2 Years. So on Course completion you will have huge opportunity to work wit leading designers, film industry and modelling industry. It always requires a fresh talents in fashion world as this is one such profession that you needs to be updated.
You can even pursue "Post Graduation Courses into Fashion Designing". In which some of the colleges even provides with On Campus Placements.
