 IES includes only above 4 Engineering branches. Lakhs of Computer science engineering graduates passing out every year have to study many electronics subject in order to qualify this exam.

Introduction

Engineers in the Indian Engineering Services are classified as Class 1 officers and work for the government of India. They are in charge of a large portion of the public sector economy, including Indian Railways, Power, Telecommunications, Central Water Engineering, Defence Service of Engineers, Central Engineering Service, and so on. The nature of the work done by these bureaucrats is largely determined by their engineering branch and the service or cadre into which they are recruited. The career progression is smooth, and the esteem is high. The first position available is that of Asst. Executive Engineer and the hierarchy concludes with the position of Chairman/Managing Director.

IES

- Indian Engineering Service Exam is a paper-pen based, four-part government service examination directed by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment of engineers in the Engineering Services of the Government of India. IES 2017 exam is conducted for recruitment of engineers in government services/sectors of railways, roadways, defence, energy and telecommunication. Any graduate engineer can apply for (ESE) Engineering Service Examination. 

 Most toppers of this ESE are graduates of institutes like the Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. The career of an IES officer is highly respected due to its diverse areas of work. To the Indian Government an IES officer is an important link in the government's task and functions that include railways, roads, defence, manufacturing, inspection, supply, construction, public works, power, telecommunications, etc. All appointments to the Group "A" services are made by the President of India.

IES includes only above 4 Engineering branches. Lakhs of Computer science engineering graduates passing out every year have to study many electronics subject in order to qualify this exam. There is no field in which computer engineers are not required. Then why cannot UPSC opens this reputed examination for computer engineering graduates.

 

If you really want to move on to the government sector, then

·       First thing there's a few job opportunities matched according to your profile like ethical hacking or cyber security dep’t. In central govt and some PSU’s hire through GATE EXAM

·       And apart from technical jobs you can prepare for SSC CGL EXAM ( best for good govt jobs easy exam pattern)

 

And for bank exams go for SBI PO exam or IBPS exams

What is the minimum percentage required for IES?

There is no requirement of any percentage of marks for IES. The candidate must be an Indian Citizen having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam in any stream of Engineering or pass from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for the reserved candidates.

How many seats are there in IES?

IES/ESE 2020 total vacancies are 495 including 21 vacancies for the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (03 vacancies for Low Vision, 11 vacancies for Locomotor Disability including Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack victims and Muscular Dystrophy & 07 vacancies for Hard of Hearing vacancies.

Is physical fitness required for IES?

for UPSC Engineering Services After the declaration of the final results of the ESE examination, all the candidates who make it to the final list have to undergo medical fitness tests conducted by Railway Board at various Railway Hospitals.
