Food technologists are hired by both private sector as well as public sector organizations. In the public sector one can find jobs in organizations like Food Corporation of India, Modern Food Corporation, North Eastern Agricultural Marketing Corporation, Milk food, Verka etc.

The job of food technologist in nay of these companies include examination of food, checking for adulteration and contamination and certifying food nutritional value. They are responsible for devising new and improved techniques for processing , conservation and preservation of food items. They are also responsible for developing new products and processes.Job titles could be food technologist, food scientist, quality assurance executive , product development specialist , research and development manager , research scientist, food quality control specialist , food analyst, food consultant, food & drug inspector etc.
With processed food chains with foreign tie ups emerging in Indian market , food technologists will have immense opportunities to work in private sector as well. Agri-exports have picked up tremendously which has also led to utilization of the skills of food technologists.
