Can I skip class 11 and straight away do 12th (commerce)?

I got good percent in 10th (ICSE ) 90%. Now I wish to study in Canada but I require a class 12 certificate for admission in any college there. I want to skip grade 11 so as to save time. By doing this I will be able to save 1 year. Will my grade certificate be valid then??

Dear Friend,

Greetings of the day!!!

Looking at your Marks/Grades in class 10th its looks that you are a intelligent student who would not compromise on Marks.

You want to go to Canada for your graduation but if you skip 11th and give 12th privately, it would be showing a wrong picture of your education path Moreover there are certain colleges which would ask for your class XI marks to judge your academics since admission are completed in lot of international universities before the result of class 11th is declared.

Many Colleges anduniversitieswould want you to have attained a minimum age before you could join college.

Class 11th can be used as aopportunityto show your leadership skills and work on your resume to add activitiesalso, since most of colleges would not look for grades alone but other skills as well

I have seen lot of students who would instead ofskippingclass 11th would work hard to get good grades so thatthey areofferedseat in colleges of their choice.

Thus it would berecommendedto complete class 11th and go to class 12th. Shortcuts could be bad for your career inlong run.

Wish you all the best

Hi There,

Very very interesting.

I have heard of schools promoting a super genius kid into a higher grade, but never heard that one individually can decide to skip a year.

From your 10th score, its seems you are an intelligent boy.

Please note that Intelligence develops when one covers all stages and not just be in a hurry.

Your wish to save a year can cost you to compromise on your basic knowledge which indeed can be detrimental.

Even though we say 11th is of no use, but do note it is the basis of your further education. It helps in your 12th since basics are covered and creates less burden.

So as a counselor i would suggests, be patient and gain knowledge.

Gaining knowledge does not waste time or year.

Rest points are covered by the counselor above.

Wish you good luck for future..........

Hello Dear Friend,
Welcome to Career Guide.com
Thanks for visiting us and writing us your career query.

Its good to hear that you aspire to pursue your further studies from CANADA. Very few students aspire to complete their further education from foreign country.

My colleagues have very answered to your query. I would suggest you to consult to a Foreign Education Consultant with regards for pursuing further education in CANADA.

While skipping 11th and attempting 12th wont help you much. If you give an direct attempt for 12th by skipping 11th you will find 12th to be difficult which and make you to work extra.Thought your academics are good ,most of the 12th syllabus is dependent on the 11th studies because in 11th you study the basics of commerce which helps you to learn 12th and helps you to crack 12th. 11th and 12th are the basis of your further education.
Some of the important subject of Commerce is Accounts. The concepts, applications of Accounts all are taught in the 11th std. Unless you know the basics you wont be able to understand the concepts of 12th Std. In the same way other subjects like OC,SP etc. basics are covered in 11th Std.

Commerce is a stream which is both theoretical and Logical.

So i would suggest you not skip your 11th just to save a one year.Though you have other things of have completed so years of education in the Native Country. Go with your 11th and 12th properly this education will take you a long run in your further education and also career life.

So don't be in a Hurry.
I hope you find this information relevant to your career query.

Feel free to get in touch again for your career query.

Thank You

Wish you Good Luck thumbsup
Warm Regards,
Prathamesh K.

Dear Aspirant,

Why are you crazy for studies abroad and that too by skipping one level.

No Board allows skipping a level and appear directly for 12th commerce.

11th and 12th a re base for Commerce graduation.

Do not hurry in your education.

Please re think on your decision.

Best wishes

Dear Chandandeepk,

Thanks for writing to Careerguide.com!!

Congratulations for scoring such good marks in your exam. And it's good to learn that you wish to continue your studies in Canada. But before you decide to jump to skip a year let me tell you that even Colleges/ Universities abroad demand a minimum years of education for foreign students. Like for a student from Mumbai would have to do 10+2 years before they enroll in graduation course and Delhi or Gujarat has 12+3 as ideal Graduation course. So according to me skipping a year may in turn extend your stay in India as if you apply without minimum requirements, your application may get rejected and you may be asked to complete it first. So on these grounds, I would request you to find this from the college/ institution you plan to apply first and then complete your 12th class from India and then apply further.

Do write us back for any further questions.

Thanks & Regards,
Apurva Pandya.
