I am currently in 12th grade and in a fix about what to choose after my course... I have done a bit of research about cytogenetics and would like to know whether it is a course that has scope for a job as well as research..? And what should be my career plan to be a clinical cytogeneticist? Thanks a Lot, Waiting for your reply!

Hi There,

Interesting.

I like the way you have shown interests in your career path, especially doing your own study of a course is an excellent way to saveguard your future.

Since you have done your research, I am not going in-depth to what cytologists is all about.

This field is related to study of chromosomes to detect genetic disorders.

Since this field is related to Science mainly involving Biology and Physics subjects.
So you can opt for a B.Sc program related to
Genetics
Biomedical Sciences
Pharmacy
Medical Doctors ( MBBS/ MD)

Since the field is more related to Research, you would have to progress towards the P.hD level in future.

As far as the scope is concerned, it is one of the major areas of study, that helps combat any type of future degenerative disorders and helps in stopping or gives insight into existing genetic disorders.
T^his is a compete research oriented field, with prospects both in India and Abroad.
Though due to the better facilities in terms of labs, and other facilities needed, such research is quite high abroad.

So if you are a Research oriented person, you can opt for this field in future.

Wish you good luck.....
