Hello My Dear IFS Aspirant,

Firstly I would like to appreciate that you wish to go into the government service through competitive exams and that too a great and dynamic field of Indian Foreign Service (IFS). I eally appreciate your willingness to contribute to the nation through anoble and high level service.

I understand that you are currently in your graduation and wish to know which subjects would be helpful in preparation for the IFS exams also. I would like to tell you do not get confused or tensed. You are very much on the right track and there fore I would like to once again appreciate you for thinking about your future career so well in advance and also have taken a step towards it by rightly approaching CareerGuide.com for guidance and clarification.

In my more than seven years of career counselling experience, I have counselled many students from diverse fields like commerce / manangement / law / finance / engineering, etc but a student like you who wishes to go into IFS and serve the nation, is very rare, since mostly are interested in corporate jobs and comfortable life. Since I am also into teaching I am close to student fraternity and there fore know their likings and abilities.

Choosing of Graduation subject:

My Dear Aspirant, since you are aiming at Foreign Services, I would like to suggest you to choose International Business subject in your graduation.

International Business subject is all about foreign affairs - international trade, international economics, international banking, international political relations, etc.

International Business is even a specialisation for MBA and this specialisation is very famous since it gives ample of opportunities and also a different avenue to work in compared to the typical finance/marketing fields.

Choosing international business will definitely help you when you start studying actually for your IFS exams. If you are in the last year of graduation, it is the right time to start studying for IFS.

I would recommend you to also join a competitive exam coaching class in your local area since doing that will help you study systematically and sincerely and also will enable you to seek help from teachers there.

I hope the above clarifies your query!

Best Luck
