Well Kirti after reading your query i am not getting your point what exactly you wish to ask.
Do you mean to ask that to make a career in Mass Communication you should have studied your graduation degree in Mass Communication???
Mass Communication has been one of the field that has a tremendous career opportunistic now a days and there has been a huge requirement of the Mass Communication Students.Mass Communication students are not confined to News Channels as Reporters,Journalists,News Reader etc. Now they also have a Career Opportunities to work with various PR and Marketing Companies,Event Management Companies. While there has been also requirement of these students in IT,Software companies for the various roles and departments like Corporate Communication Development,Public Relations and Marketing Department etc.
In order to make a career in this industry one should have some of the skills like - Good Communication Skills,Good Command over Languages,Sociable Person, Pro Active ,Good at Interpersonal Skills,Stage Dairying,Public Speaking etc.
Along with these skills one must also hold a degree of the same course. So it depends on the students whether they wish to do their Graduation Degree in Mass Communication or Not. Thought pursuing a Graduation Degree in Mass Communication one has to complete a Masters degree or PG Diploma Course to have a Good Career start in Mass Communication Industry.
While the other option the student have is to apply for Masters/PG Diploma Course after completing graduation from any stream. So you dont need to have a Graduation Degree in Mass Communication you can apply directly for Masters Degree or PG Diploma Course.

I am not clear with your question. Do you want to know whether you need to pursue graduation in mass-communication if you want to make career in mass communication?
I assume that you want to do PG in mass-communication. Accordingly, my answer is you do not need to do graduate in mass communication. If you want to study mass-communication, you can do PG after BA. However, please note that some institutions prefer graduate in mass-communication for the admission.
Most mass-communication institutes conduct entrance exam, group discussion(GD) and personal interview(PI). You need to clear those entrance exam, GDPI to get into PG course.
