The Textile Industry in India:
The Indian Textile Industry boats of having an overwhelming presence in the economy of the country. The industry plays pivotal role through its contribution to industrial output, employment generation, and export earning of the country. Currently, it contributes about 14% to industrial production, 4% to the GDP, and 17% to the country's export earnings. Notably, it provides employment to over 35 million people. And with the decentralization of power loom / hosiery and knitting sectors, and new techniques to produce a variety of products to suit different market sections, there is a huge demand for trained professionals in the textile and apparel industry.

For the growth of the industry, the Indian Ministry of Textiles believes that there is a strong need to focus on aspects like product development, CAD to develop designing capabilities, investment in trend forecasting to enable growth of industry.

The growth opportunities exists in areas including medical textile, construction textile, packaging textiles, baby diapers, home textiles, blankets, bed, toilet and kitchen linen, curtains, drapes, interior blinds, furnishing articles, sacks and bags, tarpaulin, sail, tent, and camping goods.


Roles and Responsibilities:
-Textile engineers provide technical suggestions and recommendations to designing, marketing, and purchasing and production staff.
- They are responsible for creating products in compliance with the given specifications.
- They need to learn latest trends and requirements of people.
- they are involved in textile harvesting, which includes production and processing.
- They develop samples, amend designs, evaluate, identify and choose fabrics from suppliers.
- One of the important role is they make sure that the final product meets pre-decided specifications in terms of color security and durability.

As with above given roles and responsibilities, the textile engineers experiences both the social interactions (in learning of latest trends, research, )as well as working with machines while in production.


Career Opportunities:
Graduates can have opportunities in production development and management, retail management, apparel designing, visual merchandising, technical designing, fashion writing and editing, quality control, museum collection management, and theatrical costuming.

Other related fields and career titles could include operations manager, apparel sales representative, pattern maker, product developer, fashion buyer, fashion consultant, textile research scientist, technical designer, store manager, quality assurance evaluator, costume designers and many more.

After gaining some experience people can even start up their own venture.
