With so much of importance being placed on well groomed and attractive physical appearance now a days , professional training in beauty culture is gaining some importance. Many polytechnics conduct diploma courses in beauty culture and hair dressing for students who have completed class 10 or plus two or equivalent examination successfully. These courses vary in duration from six months to two years. The longer duration courses are more comprehensive. Established beauticians of national and international repute also conduct certified training programmes which are well recognized in the profession. Fluency in English is a basic requirement for all these programmes. To be successful , a beautician should be able to speak well.Knowledge of the local language is also a great aid. A foreign language is a great help in the bigger establishments attached to luxury hotels , knowledge of elementary science is an asset.The best professional training in this field is available in the metropolitan and major cities of the country. However apart from professional training , a strong emphasis is placed on certain personality traits while hiring beauty experts such as liking for people, good humor, helpful nature, good interpersonal and communication skills, physical agility , some artistic ability , an attractive and well groomed appearance and unruffled manner help

Hello

Beauty and wellness field is more about soft skills and personality and no specific academic qualification is required for this. However, I would highly recommend education up to twelfth standard as it needs good communication skills. Knowledge of basic English language is important and knowledge of using computer is highly recommended as many salons offer online appointment service.

Other than academic qualification, following skills are must to be successful in this field

  • Listening skills - Being a good listener, a beautician can offer suitable therapy to the client
  • Physical fitness - A beautician needs to stand for many hours and it should not make him/her feel tired.
  • Time management – You also need to keep proper log of appointments and manage time accordingly.
  • Have a smart and neat appearance
  • Have an artistic flair for hair styles, nail art etc
  • Good eye and hand co-ordination as few treatments involve delicate work.
