Yes, of course Academic record matters a lot while looking for a job of financial planners.All companies while hiring will definitely ask for some minimum criteria's of academics to be full filled before applying which is standard for any job or recruitment process.

I am working as an financial analyst in a private company and I found it really helpful having a good financial background in the same as my base is very clear and I am more sound in my idea about what I do my day today work. It really counts if you have good background or academics in the work what you are going to do in your future.

Even private companies while hiring do see and take seriously the academics of individuals and after that only move ahead. Apart from this if you do not have proper academics your resume will not be eligible in the screening process itself and will be rejected in the very starting stage of recruitment.

No point in thinking and asking whether academics matters in financial planning job or not as in finance field you can only move above ladder after having some basic qualification in the same at least graduation in commerce and finance field is the minimum qualification is required.

Apart from this if you are having good academics and your scores and grades are very good, you will always have a plus point and your chances of selection will be really very high. as to get good scores is not easy in finance field. It needs lot of hard work and studious attitude and sound knowledge to get higher scores and grades.
When you are good in all point your chances will always be above all other participants in all aspects. You can mark your presence and show a good impression in the selection process time, above all it will build up your confidence and moral and you can project your knowledge and ideas better.
