Generally the academic record will not matter if you want to go for the job of writing. One thing that you must understand is that writing in itself is an art and it has rarely to do anything how you performed in your exams. If you write really well, nobody is going to ask you what did you score in your school or college. However there will be few instances when the employers might consider your academic record. I am listing down such scenarios.

1. If you are looking for an internship or in case you are a fresher with no work experience, and you are looking for a job, in that case the employer will be interested to know about your academic records. They may not go for all the subjects but surely they will go through certain sections of your academics and scrutinize them. They would like to ensure how good you were at languages, your aptitude and sincerity levels during that time. All these factors are often considered by the employers.

2. If you are keen to work in a publication house or magazine as a part of literature team or editing team, your academic records will be tested and it will be ensured that you did extremely well in your language subjects. Here you cannot afford to have lower literature skills and therefore proper care is taken while hiring such writers.

3. If you are keen to work in the academic positions as a writer or in the government organizations, academics play even more important role.. The rules there will be rigid and you will be judged on the basis of your academic performance overall as well as the language subjects. There are many formalities required for such jobs and careers, and therefore the academic records are thoroughly checked and is ensured that person performed really well in the academics.

Apart from this, you won't have to worry about your academic records. Most writers work independently and therefore it is not often important.
