Yes you can still opt for Psychology. Some University ask you to appear for a paper in Psychology to see your understanding of the subject.
As far as the scope is concerned, people are now open to visiting a counselor and the needd is felt all over right from.hospitals ( pre and post surgery), polyclinics, industries, schools, NGO and private practices.
Only to function as a Clinical Psychologists one needs an M.Phil followed by an RCI registeration. The other specializations can work as a counselor after a post graduation.degree.
Another important point here is to function as a fulltime counselor, knowledge on different areas is a must. Try and get a certificate in courses like special education, play therapy, brain gym, NLP, hypnosis, DMIT, career guidance etc. Not all but one or two atleast.

Dont worry.. You can go for BA Honors courses where you can opt Psychology as the main subjects. If you have got more than 50% in 12th class, you are eligible for that. Best institutes for Psychology are Delhi University, Lovely Professional University, VIT etc.
