Interesting to see your line of interest. I wish you all the very best and pray your dreams come true.
As far as choosing a course from IIT is concerned especially related to research, you would have to make a choice.
IITK, offers specializations in Chemical engineering, Aerospace engineering, Biological and Bioengineering, Civil engineering, Induistrial and management engineering, Mechanical engineering. These are areas in which research is possible.
As such you need to see your area of interest. eg. If you are interested in space and galaxy then aerospace engineering can be your field, if interested in human immune and biological system, then Bioengineering must be your field.
I would strongly advise that, you join IIT, and then expose different fields and only when you get an idea of the course and develop an interest, only then make your choice. At the same time, once you join, meet the HOD of various specializations, get detailed information as to what kind of methods, materials and subjects would be involved for your research work and then make a choice.
