This is an interesting question. A number of students from Electronics and Communications Engineering get confused between these two areas. I would like you to read below information and decide your own stream:

If you go for embedded systems, there are limited opportunities in India. If you pursue it abroad there are vast number of opportunities but in India there will be limited ones. Although there are few small companies growing up in the embedded systems field yet there is a scarcity of large companies and therefore the job options. If you are keen enough to work on it only then you should go for it and make sure that you stay in touch with those companies that hire embedded systems engineers. Also if you want to pursue embedded systems, then you should be good at hardware working knowledge, programming skills and electronics manufacturing industry and processes. The placement procedure is generally rigid for embedded systems and therefore you will have to prepare very well for the job.

In case you decide to go for wireless communication engineering then electronics field will hold lesser significance for you and it will be more about Communications Engineering. You will have to understand the hardware involved in the communication and wireless technology, and also the software part. You will have to work on MATLAB too. In terms of job options there are plenty of job opportunities for wireless engineers in India. But they don't pay as much as would like them to. Wireless technology is a growing field and will hold a lot of value in the future. If you are pursuing wireless communication engineering, do spend a lot of time in learning and apply for the top companies.

Overall, in the Embedded systems, you will have fewer job options but the salaries are quite high. If you talk about wireless technology engineering, there you have more number of job options but the salaries won't be that high. Ultimately it will be your interest will matter a lot and therefore you should make a choice according to that only.
