What are you interested in exactly car designing or manufacturing? How come have you suddenly developed this interest?.
Anyways, please note there is a difference between the two. As an engineer you would be into manufacturing of cars and hence would need the knowledge of both physics and math. Whereas a designer is the one who makes the sketches as per the instruction of the engineer. Hence here you need good math skills followed by good imaginative and creativity skills. Car designing would be a part of Product designing. For a designing course you would have to appear for an entrance exam like NEED.
Please note, before you take a hasty decision, I suggest take an Aptitude test, which will point out whether you have the potentials or abilities towards a designing or engineering course.
I would suggest, continue with commercd and as a hobby pursue car designing course.
