Its good, you drop one year to prepare for IIT JAM Exam. There is no issue to apply for IIT JAM Exam after one year gap. By doing this you have one whole year for preparation which is enough.
You have to make a strategy to prepare well for JAM exam. First of all analyze the complete syllabus.
First 3 months focus on basics and complete syllabus
Second 3 months prepare for weak areas
Third 3 months practice mock test papers & previous years question papers
Rest time you have to utilize in revision because revision is must.
For preparation prefer best reference books of Chemistry.
