There are a number of differences in the content writing and the story writing. Below points will help you understand the difference in a better way:

1. Content writing is about writing the pre decided content and then working only on the written communication part. The idea and the information has been communicated by the client and therefore not much research is required by the writer. In case of story writing all the information has to be either collected or has to be imagined in case of fictional stories, by the writer only.

2. The scope of imagination and creativity is far more in case of story writing than in the case of content writing. In case of story writing the writer has the flexibility to go beyond the limits and experiment with the work. The content writers on the other hand are restricted by the client and only certain things can be put in their writing.

3. The content writing jobs are easily available and also are huge in number. These jobs have become so common in the information and digital age. Almost every organization requires content that needs to be put in their websites, press releases and other newsletters. Therefore there are large number of content writers jobs available all over the world. The story writing jobs are not that common. In fact they are so rare that one may not be able to find one that suits them. And so many times the story writers quit this profession due to lack of jobs.

4.There is decent amount of the money in case of content writing. This is because there are many opportunities and at the same time the supply of the writers is also huge. Thus a medium level income is earned by the content writers. The story writers on the other hand although have few jobs but once they become popular they make huge sums of money, far more than the content writers can ever make.

Thus the two writers are different and each has pros and cons associated with them.
