On the International Airports , the Custom Officer plays an important role in keeping an eye over the Goods and the things that are being carried by the passengers and the goods that are imported or exported. Its there responsibility to keep an eye on the Airport whether the any of the goods are not an threat to the country and also to make sure that the taxes are duely paid on the goods before importing in a country.
As Custom Officer is a Central Government Post, its exams are conducted by the Union Public Service Commission Board known as UPSC exams. On successfully clearing the UPSC exam one can get appointed as the Custom Officer. The Custom Officer post comes under the Indian Customs and Central Excise. So while applying for the UPSC and submitting the application form one needs to mention their preferred area as IC&CE same like Revenue etc.
The UPSC exam is also known as the CSAT exam which is conducted in the 2 levels
1. CSAT Prelim Exam
2. CSAT Main Exam
The Prelim exam is qualifiying exam , the one who clears the Prelim exam are eligible for the Main exam and those who clear the Main Exam are called for the interview.
The application for the exam is to be done online .
The Eligibility criteria for the exam is as follows
1. A candidate should have completed a Graduation Degree from a recognised University from any stream with minimum 55%.
2. Those who have completed 21 years of age are eligibile to apply for the exam and the upper age limit is 30 years. There is age relaxation for the reserved candidates as per the notification by the UPSC.
