How can I secure a job in an embassy or any international organisation?

Hey I wish to study economics and wants to secure a job in an embassy. Is it viable for an economics postgraduate and how will learning japanese language help me as a part time course?

To secure a job in an embassy or any international organization, you have to join Indian Foreign Services. To join Indian foreign services you have to clear civil services examination conducted by Union Public ServiceCommissionof India.



After passing the exam , one is sent for training of 3 months to Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration at Mussorie as
ForeignService Probationer or Officer Trainee. After completion of initial three months training one is deputed for one year of further training atForeignService Institute New Delhi.



The training involves
understandingthe various facets of international relations, Indian Foreign Service Pay, Leave and Compensatory allowances rules, functioning of Indian mission in neighboring southAsiancountries, attachment with the district and state administration, corporate sector and withdefenseforces.




After one year of training at Foreign Service Institute an officer trainee is further attached to Ministry of
ExternalAffairs for on the job training for the duration of 6 months. On completion of 6 months on the job training a traineeofficerhas to undergo acompulsoryforeignlanguagetraining in any of the foreignlanguagesuch asChinese french,ArabicSpanishor others as deemed fit.



A
proficiencytest is administered by the school of foreign languages , Ministry ofDefenseIndia to assess theproficiency. Only after successfully passing the foreign language proficiency test , an officer trainee is confirmed in Indian Foreign Services.



It takes 3 years to become an
IndianForeign Service officer from the date of joining theIndianforeign services as trainee. After being confirmed in the Indian Foreign Service, anIndianforeign services officer is posted as second secretary at an Indian Embassy or Consulateatthe Indian consulate fora periodof 3 years in political, economic or commerce, consular , administrative or cultural wings. During this period the officer learns political , economic, commercial,cultural,consularor administrative work from his seniors at the embassy or consulate.
