Hi Sagar,

According to the health department of USA, the country is facing shortage of dentists. At the moment there are 55 dentists per lakh people in United States. Therefore, US desperately need dentists even if it has to be from other countries.
You may have heard sometimes that US doesn’t recognise BDS degree from India. This is a myth. The American Dental Association to recognise BDS degree from India but as Dental Degree from regionally accredited university. The same goes for degrees from Europe and other Asian countries.

In this case what you require is a DDS degree from US. It means that you will have to take up the DDS degree course in US. You will get admission through Advanced Standing Program for Foreign Students that would get you entry in the second year of DDS as comparing to 4 years course which locals are required to do.

Here are the eligibility criteria for DDS Admission Process:

  • You should have BDS or MDS degree from India.
  • You will have to get done the Transcript Evaluation. The cost of evaluation is between $85 to $165.
  • Next you will have to appear in NBDE (National Board Dental Examination) Part 1 exam. This examination takes place across US & Canada. The fee to appear in this exam is $265.
  • Only if you passed the NBDE Part 1 exam with more than 85% marks then you will be eligible for the admission.
  • Another exam you have to appear before admission is TOEFL exam.
  • Once you pass the NBDE 1 & TOEFL examination then you have to send application in various universities for admission.
