Hello My Dear...

I am very happy at the beginning to see that you are think for your future and also thinking of planning for it well in advance by asking for guidance and expert opinion. I liked your attitude towards career advancement and also your attitude to become aware of the things which are required to be successful in future. I compliment you for this, especially since I suppose that you have chose Civil Engineering as your career!

For a Civil Engineer, considering the slated growth in construction and infrastructure industry of India for which the Government of India is also very positive and wishes to invest about One Trillion Dollars by the end of 2017, there is huge scope in terms of employment and entrepreneurship in this sector. The sad and unfortunate part is there is huge shortage of skilled and trained manpower in this sector and companies are not able to get them inspite of willingness to pay them high salaries.

As a fresh Civil Engineer, the fact is you would not get a high paid job or high level job profile since as a fresher one lacks the experience and practical technical expertise and exposure to execute tasks independently.

Even if you spend five years working at a low end level, it is very difficult to rise to the level of Sr. Engineer in a matter of five years considering the industry requirement and polcicies.

What I would suggest you that you should aim for a jump in your career after your Civil Engineering graduation so that you directly start working from the Sr. Engineer level and getting the designation of the Project Manager will be easy and require very short duration then.

By jump in career I mean that you should learn some important things which the industry is currently requiring and in which it is not been able to get the required skilled professionals. The most important thing for a Civil Engineer to learn today as per the demand of the industry is Construction Project Management.

I recommend you to do a full time course in Construction Project Management from Institutes in India. One of them is Samvit School of Infrastructure Business located in Pune. www.samvitinfra.edu.in

What is Construction and Project Management, you can understand it from the below diagram. But I would like to recommend you to seriously learn this aspect for long term benefit in your career.
