Nowadays various awareness programmes are conducted to communicate the career possibilities of entrepreneurship. The thought process in the mind of students and the career aspirants, at the time of finding the job, is whether it is secured and whether there is job security for life. In the past, the secure jobs were in banks, government organisations, steel industry, automobile industry, insurance etc. But the recent changes in Govt. deficit and along with that the globalisation, mergers and acquisition in basic industries has overturned the expectations related to the stability and the continuity. The career with the lifetime position is vanishing faster than anything else. These days the phenomenon lying under the available career options is uncertainty. Therefore the career option with vision, innovative ideas and creativity are directing job seekers towards entrepreneurship. The exploring new opportunities are the base work. The scope is enormous. The market is huge. The next thing is to match the input of their creativity, skills, knowledge, and experience with the output that is in demand in the society.

The reasons behind going for entrepreneurship career are many for job seekers and professionals. As they-

  • want to be independent
  • want to make their hobby, their profession
  • love to accept the challenge
  • have a great plan to offer to the society
  • are frustrated with their current job
  • have been laid-off
  • need flexibility in job
  • are just graduated or completed their education and there is no better job offer
  • The jobs in the market are not giving the ample scope to explore the skills

In the corporate world after working for many years and after gaining expertise in a certain arena, a good number of people would like to start the same thing on their own which they were doing for others. The people who have enough skill bases, the alternative option to satisfy themselves is to choose entrepreneurship as the career. That is also required to handle the job well. Entrepreneurship is found in almost every industry or the career in entrepreneurship can be started in any field or industry. One can start with products or services or can also start a company or even an industry. The aspirants of entrepreneurial career may pursue any of the following.

  • Starting a new venture: It can be done by launching a new company, owning a franchise, bringing new technology to the market, starting a new venture in the family business, acquiring a business etc.

  • Existing venture: Working for start-ups, owning entrepreneurial unit as a corporate or strategic unit in the field of education, research and development etc. There is also scope to start as an accelerator.

The one out of various possibilities is to start own business. An individual can join a new firm where he can work as an entrepreneur with the vision and zeal. He can control the activities of the organisation to reduce risks. Even in an existing firm a department or a process may require an infusion of entrepreneurial activities to mobilise the system with the positive changes. There is also another option to work as an entrepreneurial executive and invent a new product or introduce a new service. The individual, in this case, can implement his own idea in his own style with the vision.

It’s more about understanding the demand and supply in the market. If one can read the market pulse and act, entrepreneurship is the right option for them. Our young job seekers have understood this well because management colleges have already incorporated the entrepreneurship in their curriculum. Also, the recent focus of the economy on the entrepreneurship has made the job seekers think, whether this is also the right career for them. There is risk but achievement is very rewarding compared to any other career option.
