Hi,

Communication skills are required in every field and any field. With out communication it is not possible to understand or make others understand about what is to be done and what is going on. Communication skills come under interpersonal skills and transferable skills. They are generic skills that can equip you for a broad range of study, research or employment situations. Examples include verbal and written communication, team working, time management , computer skills and evaluation skills.

Over the past years students from the institute of astronomy have taken part in a number of activities such as language programmer, public out reach and specific skills development seminars. You need them because astronomers need to communicate their findings to other astronomers. Good communication skills will enhance your ability to communicate your passion to other astronomers in a much wider lay audience. Many of you will also find yourselves working with larger teams of collaborators. Being able to function effectively with in such a team is an important skill to develop.

Many astronomy Ph.D students go on to find employment in the academic research environment. Communication skills help expand the opportunities available to you, by giving you the confidence and vision to see how your specialist skills can be adapted and expanded.

Hope you got the point , as to why communication skill is important, still if you want to understand any thing else please ask me again.

ALL THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!
