Dietists is an art which feeds an individual based on the principles of nutrition. Dietetics is a vast and emerging field of late. A dietician or a nutritionist is in high demand all over the world in healthcare organizations, hospitals, media, restaurants, schools, food services, gyms, swimming centers, research centers, private sectors etc. One has to do an internship in dietary after completing graduation or master's degree in nutrition or other related courses. A registered or a licensed dietician/ nutritionist plays a vital role in our daily lives. There is a wide list of their responsibilities in a community to take care and guide people about healthy and nutritious diet to stay fit.

Dietician serves people by helping them in food management. On the other hand, Nutritionist offers nutritious support for good health. If one is like food for the body then the other is like nutrients for the body. The remedial process a dietician provide to a person through proper eating habits helps people to live longer even with illnesses such as thyroid, diabetes, cholesterol, renal, cardiac, hypertension etc.

 

A diet chart is not only based on the various illnesses but also depends on the age group. An infant needs a liquid diet to get proper nutrition for his growth. A child needs a balance between solid food and liquid diet to get the necessary amount of proteins, minerals, fibers and calcium for their speedy physical and mental development.

An adult requires a diet which helps him to stay fit and protected from various severe illnesses. He needs a diet which helps him to overcome stress and act as an energy booster for him. An old-age person has his own body requirements due to various illnesses. Age factor slows down the digestion process which needs a particular well-balanced diet.

 

Day Schedule of a Dietician/Nutritionist:

A day in the life of a dietician or a nutritionist is full of responsibilities and improvements. They are the only people who help a person to stay fit by suggesting them to follow up a proper diet plan which is best suited for their health. A Dietician/Nutritionist live a busy life and spend their whole life in tracking their patient's health. Let's see how:

 

Track and record:

The first thing a Dietician or a nutritionist is to check out the list of the patients and to find out if they require any changes in their diet. They have to track entire changes in patient's health whether it suits them or makes their health worse due to change in diet.

 

Making plans with co-workers:

The second thing is to talk to other healthcare workers, attendants, physiotherapists, case managers, respiratory therapists or doctors for further additions in patient's diet so that they can make a perfect diet chart for them to improve their health.

 

Make visits:

Dietician, if works in a hospital, have to make regular visits to their new and old patients. They have to list out all the meals in their diet and do corrections in them as per their body requirements. One has to oversee the overall health fitness of at least 10 patients per day.

 

Submitting records:

At the end of the day, if working in a healthcare organization, one has to reply emails, health concerns, submit all the reports to the head of the clinical nutrition department. One can also get the responsibility to provide training to the junior staff and to the patients at the time of their discharge.

 

Extra activities:

Dietician/ Nutritionist has to keep in touch with senior doctors through attending conferences, webinars, group discussions, presentations, research sites, discuss latest health issues and their perspectives, get updated with new technologies. They have to communicate with nurses, attendants, junior-workers or peers to get updated about the health of a patient. One can also provide community education in public places to bring awareness in the society towards their health.

The aim of a dietician or a nutritionist is to provide better health to an individual by offering balanced and nutritious diet to him. Better will be the health, more will be the chances for a patient to live longer and healthy life.
