Psychiatry is a special field of health care which deals with the mental, emotional and behavioral disorders of a person. They definitely need to have excellent communication skills as their job involves talking to patients about their mental , emotional or behavioral problems in order to the understand the nature and severity of the problem. To make a treatment plan they take into account the physical and mental history of the patient by talking to the patient and his or her significant others. They have to build a rapport with the patient to understand the root cause of the problem. A good rapport can only be develop by communicating to the patient effectively and in such a way that patient does not resist sharing any information pertaining to his or her illness with a psychiatrist. They are expected to conduct psycho education programme in large industrial establishment , corporate houses and government bodies as well which is feasible only if they have good communication skills.
