Mechanical engineers work on following tasks in their every day schedule:

1. Work with team members, technicians and other employees to calculate and plan the design.

2. Use the effective methodologies to come up with best quality solution and finalize the design.

3. Plan and manage the projects. Work with the management team to set the deadlines and accordingly assign work to the juniors/

4. Design the various components required in the project. The designing part these days is done on the computers only.

5. Once the design is ready, analyze the various properties of it and discuss it with the team.

6. Supervise and inspect the installation, modification and operation of various machines.

7. Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide assistance to the junior staff.

Therefore the typical day for a Mechanical Engineer throws many challenges and tasks and they have to deal them one by one. Below is the video that shows the typical day of any Mechanical Engineer.

Dear Friend, appreciate your curiosity to know the routine of Mechanical Engineer. This is my 15 th year as a Mechanical Engineering and I have worked in various departments during this period.

Like many other students, when I passed the Engineering, I enrolled for AutoCAD class. It was a myth prevailing those days (May be today also) that Mechanical Engineer MUST know AutoCAD. Without knowing my skills and aptitude I simply waster money. Before I answer your question , the above background is important to understand . How a Mechanical Engineer spend a day is solely depends on in which filed he is. For example if he is in sales (like me) his routine is different every day . Sometimes client priority drives his day. Similarly a day of Planning Engineer , Maintenance Engineer, Purchase Engineer , Design Engineer is different based on their priorities.

My sincere advice to you is just to focus on your skill and decide which field in Mechanical Engineering is suitable for you. You can become an ace salesman or great design engineer or tough purchase engineer. You only can decide and your routine will be accordingly.

"Do what you love and Love what you Do"

Follow this simple rule. I guarantee you that there will be no working day or routine day in your life. Don't make the same mistake what I made in my early faze of career. Hope above will help you. All the best .
