Many students opt for Dentistry or cardiology or other specilaizations but VET is pretty uncommon.

Anyways coming back to your question.
Medical or general MBBS is a 5 1/2 years course.
When i say general MBBS, Veterinary sciences is also included in it.
Though it is not covered under the general MBBS stream, it is a separate degree persay. But in short a Graduation degree in veterinary sciences would be roughly around 5 1/2 years.

Post this degree, you are eligible to work as an animal doctor, as this course helps you in terms of diagnosing animal issues and treating them, but here again you are restricted to only the pet animals. There too surgeries are something that you cannot opt for.
Just a general diagnosis.
You could then opt for a masters degree, which is another 2 1/2 years of study.

For both Graduation and Post graduation degree, you would have to clear All India Medical Entrance exam.

Some of the specializations in the masters degree available are:
  • Animal Anatomy
  • Animal Husbandry
  • Animal Genetics and Breeding
  • Feed and fodder technology

In short Graduation and Post-graduation studies in combination would be roughly around 8 years in total. Though after 5 years you could begin practicing as a VET too.
