- Career in Meteorologist:


To become a Climatologist or Meteorologist in India is a matter of higher study. That means you have to study Post graduation courses to become a Meteorologist or Climatologist in India. The course of Climatology comes under the aegis of Atmospheric Science.


- How to study Climatology or Meteorology in India:


In order to study Climatology as specialized subject at graduation level a student must have a strong mathematical background. The subjects required are Mathematics, Physics and statistics. An engineering graduate too can study Climatology. So ISC Arts is not the right choice for those who intend to pursue a career in Climatology later. One has to study Physics, Chemistry and mathematics in ISC and than a B.Sc in a mathematically oriented subject will help you focus in a career as a Climatologist or Meteorologist.


- Scope of Meteorology in India:


In India a Climatologist will not have to struggle for a bright career. The job description of a meteorologist job is basically to study and predict weather and climate. Along with this they have to study the effects of weather and climate on environmental processes, human life and our economy. In India due to variations in climate patterns at different places, extreme weather and agro-based economy the need of a Meteorologist can be easily felt. Climatology has huge impact in Architecture as well, because Nature has great effect on building of houses, and other structures. So building Climatology is very much important as a career choice.


- Meteorologist jobs:


Meteorologist jobs in India can be at very different levels and there are huge career prospect for a qualified meteorologist. The prospective fields for a meteorologist are:

  1. Daily weather forecasting. Daily weather forecasting is very important for Govt departments like Agriculture and some other offices.
  2. Each and every airport has a Met office(meteorology office) adjacent to it for time to time weather and visibility forecasting which require qualified meteorologists.
  3. Indian Meteorological department.
  4. Atmospheric research
  5. Teaching
  6. Broadcasting in different services: A climatologist or Meteorologist can easily a grab daily weather forecasting jobs for TV Channels, and for News agencies
  7. As Architectural Climatologist: The growing India is in dire need of structures. Not only building of houses we need more structures in terms of offices, bridges, flyovers etc. to build up the new India for which expert climatologists are always required. So private Architectural farms too require Climatologist.
  8. Jobs in State and Central Agricultural Universities.
  9. Indian Council of Agricultural Research
  10. Indian Space Research Centre.
  11. National Remote Sensing Agency.
  12. Department of science and Technology.
  13. Space Application Centre.

Apart from these there are international jobs for a meteorologist. For these the student has to keep himself updated in latest career trends and job market.


- Meteorologist salary in India:


Meteorologist salary will be according to the organization he works. If he works in State run offices he will be paid according to state pay scale. The Organizations like Indian Meteorogical department, Indian Space Research Centre and other central govt departments jobs in Meteorology will be according to Pay commission scale. So a meteorologist can expect good salary as well as job security in India.
