With the recent times, the demand and importance of psychologist have increased. And so as the job and career opportunities.

Psychologist works in different areas depending on their specialization. The various specialization in psychology are clinical psychology , health psychology, rehabilitation psychology, industrial psychology, social psychology, sports psychology, educational psychology , career counseling etc.

Psychologist are employed in hospitals, psychiatric center, rehabilitation centers, clinics, schools, colleges, training centers, NGO's , corporate sector. One can even open its own clinic with few years of work experience and required education. Teaching and research are other options. One can start teaching as university level with post graduate degree in psychology and qualifying UGC NET exam.

Salary of a psychologist depends on their working area and experience.A graduate in psychology can start as and trainee under an experienced psychologist. Stipend is paid . One can join hospitals , NGO's , clinics or companies and can expect a salary between 5000-10000 depend on the organization one is working for.

There is a lot of stress and pressure in the work profile of a psychologist. So one need to be physically and mental fit. One should have excellent communications skills, reasoning skills, patience, and listening ability. One should be problem solving and decision making.

Courses available are BA hons psychology, BA pass course psychology as one of the subject. MA in psychology or any specialization. Mphil and Phd program.

In the recent time, scope for psychologist is ever increasing. There are different branches of psyhology, such as educational psychology, health psychology, school psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, rehabilitation psychology, industrial psychology, sports psychology and so. The most promising branches of psychology in terms of pay are clinical psychology and industrial psychology.

Depending upon the specialization, you may work in development sector, health sector, education sector or industrial sector.

Clinical Psychology is applied in health, education sector while industrial psychology is applied in industrial sector.

After doing MA/MSc in clinical/counseling psychology, you may work with NGO and can earn between 10-15 K. Depending upon your experience, pay may increase.

After doing MPhil in Clinical Psycholgy, you may get work in hospital, NGOs or education sector where you may get pay between 25-35K. Governemtn now offering class 1 and 2 positions of Clinical Psychologists where pay is equivalent medical professionals. These posts are offerent currently at AIMS, New Delhi.

In industry, you may begin with 25K and there is no upper limit.

If you choose to practice, you can practice counseling after doing MA and requires MPhil to start full clinical practice that includes diagnosing psychosis and administer certail clinical test and psychotherapy for psyhosis. Private practice as counselor or clinical psychologist can earn you from 10k and depending upon your skill you may earn more, there is no upper limit.
