Civil engineers handle all construction work . They are involved in the planning , research , survey and constructionof all kinds of buildings as well,l as roads, airports, dams, traffic and transportation systems, irrigation and power plants, water supply and sewage disposal plants, pots and harbours , oil rigs etc. Basically they are responsible for planning and designing project and having it constructed to the required scale. Civil engineers also develop and maintain nation's vital transportation and other infrastructures networks, improve public services , optimize the use of water and energy resources , upgrading house and transportation systems and protect natural environment. With the construction booming across the nation the job opportunities and future in this field is bright. Civil engineers can work as a consultant with municipalities, government construction, regulatory agencies, transportation authorities, architects or urban planners. They can work with companies like ONGC, railways and various departments of state and central governments. Civil engineers can also work as commissioned officer n the defense services, research organizations and laboratories

. They also can join the lucrative Indian Engineering Services conducted by Union Public Service Commission.
