There is a thriving market not just for haute couture but also for sports wear, leisure wear and the ready to wear segment of the industry. India is entering the field of haute couture on the international scene and the Indian designers are getting opportunities to display their creations in international stores.



Indian fashion designers are being approached now by global fashion chains to create separate line of clothing and accessories. The garment export industry and the fashion outlets in the country are thriving. Many textile units in the country have launched their own fashion lines and this has created many more jobs. Fashion conscious is at its height now.




The market, the print and electronic media are all devoting a great deal of attention and lots of money to the fashion industry and fashion events. The world of fashion is offering a variety of careers to choose from. Fashion design is a major career option with various specializations.



One can become a fashion designer specializing in garments for various occasions and uses or become a designer of garments made with materials such as leather or using knitwear. Accessory designers create items which enhance the look of a garment such as costume jewellery, gloves, scarves, ties , belts and purses.



The majority of designers nowadays specializing in designs which are an amalgamation and adaptation of ideas from various sources. They use their creative ability combined with technical expertise to incorporate fashion trends and their firm special style into he type of garment which sell best in a given type of market. Success in the world of fashion is linked to flair, initiative and enterprise.

Fashion designing is one of the most lucrative, appealing, glamorous, and exciting career options in the today's world. On one hand, the fashion industry satisfies both the creative fancies and the materialistic needs of the people. On the other hand, it promises glamour, fame, sucess and a high pay package to the talented people.

However, it is also a demanding career, as fashion desingers need to combine their creativity with managerial skills to sustain in this industry. Thus, if you can create magic with colours, shapes and designs, then just obtain a professional course to begin a successful career in the alluring world of the fashion designing.

Job Prospects:
In India, the fashion industry has just begun to come of age, as it is still in its fledgling stage. This industry offers plenty of opportunities for talented hard working and enthusiastic people. Prospects for fashion design graduates are pretty good, thanks to the huge and still growing demand for "Designer wear" and the equally oversized quantity of exports.

After successful completion of course, you can remain self employed. alternatively, several export houses, garment store chains, textile mills, leather companies, boutiques, fashion show organizers, jewellery houses, and media houses recruit professionals interested in a career in fashion designing.

Different Job Roles/ Names:
As a professional fashion designer, you can work in areas like desinger wear production, fashion marketing, planning and concept management. Then there is fashion media, design production management, fashion accessory design, quality control and promotion of brands.

You can also work as a designated costume designer, fasion consultant, personal stylist, technical designer, graphic designer, production pattern maker or a fashion coordinator.

Other roles inclundes: Apparel production manager, fabric buyer, fabric quality control manager, showroom sales representative, illustrator, cutting assistant and outside sales reprenetative. Those interested in fashion designing can also become entrepreneurs and form their own companies.
