The role of a reporter has changed quite a lot over the years and it is still evolving and changing continuously. Below are the explanations what all changed this profession has seen and how would it be like in the future:

1. Earlier the reporter's work was very limited. They need to report the story and that was it. The editors took care of it from there on. Their writing skills were not that important but this is not the case now. The reporters have to write their stories in a very compelling way so that they can mark impression. This is because that today the world is fast. one doesn't get enough time to edit the stories and therefore they have to write it quickly and nicely.

2. The reporters have to do a lot of research and investigation these days then they ever did. This is because of increased competition and also the facts that we live in an information age today where people want more details and explanations behind a finding. Therefore they have to do a lot of research before reporting a story.

3. The reporters role has increased from just passing the news to the newsroom to accepting the challenges and go to the tough locations and present the whole story. That way the credibility has increased. The reporters like Burkha Dutt have gained popularity due to this only. They went to report the challenging locations and did their job with great conviction.

4. Reporters now a days are also required to have well polished communication and presentation skills. This is due to the fact that they have to face the camera quite often or even communicate via telephone. If they are not impressive in their communication skills they won't be able to do justice with the news story that they are telling. Also because of internet expansion, reporters are directly reaching the audience via blogs, twitter etc. Therefore there role has become more prominent.
