Hey rahul,

Firstly a hearty congratulations to your thinking which is superb and different from the herd.
Secondly, it is the one requirement we have, employees who are different and innovative.

Footwear designing is an old age industry which no one has ever thought about. We indirectly focus on this industry, when we go hunting for shoes that match the occasions.
This industry is merely for the high-end groups and the modeling industry.

Never-the-less, even small time industries which have their retail outlets are also in hunt for footwear designer which can produce shoes with unique designs but which fits he budgets of the customers.

Coming back to your question,
Footwear Designer

Post 12th, you have options like doing Graduation or a Diploma or certificate courses in footwear designing.
But my advice to you is to opt for a 3 years degree course.
Though very few institutes outside Mumbai offer a specialization in footwear, but they are the ones who would cover the entire aspect of this course.
As a footwear designer, you need to know the aspect of designing, the shoe material quality, their availability and the molds required for each type.
Instead of studying designing separately which also is a possibility, since after a degree in designing, you could opt for a masters in Footwear designing.

But best would be to opt for a degree in footwear designing which would be a comprehensive course. Since you are looking for only footwear why major in a general designing course.
As a footwear designer the major responsibility lies in 3 areas, designing, manufacturing and marketing.
As a designer, your main role of-course is designing the shoe pattern and since you have designed it, you have a particular idea or reason, so you need to work hand-in-hand with the producer giving your inputs to him. So a little knowledge in terms of production especially the machines is a must. And lastly marketing the product,.. Again since it is your brain child who better than you can help promote the shoe.

Again repeating, your work is mainly with the high end society, mainly the modeling world, but since masses these days wish to be trendy, smaller brands also look out for designer wear, and the trend these days point out to online marketing. Never-the-less, you could start your own boutique too.
Footwear Designer
Check the following institutes:
  • Footwear Design and development Institute, Noida
  • Central Footwear Designing Institute Agra ( The best Institute)
  • College of Leather Technology, Kolkatta
  • AVI School of Fashion and School technology, Chandigarh
Just forgot to mention, post 12th, for admission into any graduation course, you would have to clear an All india Entrance exam. Similarly for Post graduation studies too.
The tests would mainly focus on your creative skills or designing skills and abstract qualities, but most importantly on your innovative techniques and being in the budget and time frame.

Wish you good luck..........
