Well Merchant Navy has been one of the most preferred career option in which students aspire to make their successful career. Students those who wish to serve their country they join the Indian Air Force as Air Force deals with the Defense Security of the Country and is a Government Sector. while the students who aspire to make their career in private sector and who wish to travel to various countries they wish to join the Merchant Navy.Merchant Navy deals with the shipment of cargoes and goods from one country to other.The person willing to make their in Merchant Navy should not phobia of Sea and ready to live far away from home for long time.In order to go for Merchant Navy one should have completed his 12th from Science stream with Subjects Mathematics,Physics and Chemistry.The Person should be unmarried.The person should not be more than 20 years however the age is relaxed to 25 years in case of SC/ST category.
The course durations are different depending on ones qualification and in which one wants to complete their course.In Merchant Navy you can apply for 1 year Course for Graduates. While other course options are-1.Marine Engineering/Nautical Science which is after 10+2 and the course duration is of 4 years and 3 years respectively.
There are only two positions offered in Merchant Navy -1.Deck Cadet Posts2.Navigating Officers Post
For sponsorship you need to apply the companies that works in the field of Merchant Navy . But after the getting sponsorship you may would not have choice of institute for Merchant Navy.You may need to take the admission in the institute in which the company tells you.

Clearly Automobile Engineering will not be of any use in Merchant Navy. It will be just regarded as a normal graduation.
To get sponsorship, you need to be working in cargo and shipping industry, where your automobile engineering will not be regarded as eligibility.
I think you should re-think on your decision to go for Merchant Navy. If you want to get into Merchant Navy you need to get into graduation again which is not recommended once you already are a graduate.
