As far as the eligibility is concerned, any graduate can become an officer through Indian Police Service. There fore this means that for becoming an IPS you need not be a specific graduation or subjects to crack and that too easily crack.
IPS is a Government servant who is a master of the Criminal Laws in India and who is a part of the internal security agencies like CID, RAW, Intelligence Agency, State and Central Police Force and Railways Police Force.
Since you are 12th PCM pass student, you can continue your science graduation and need not change to other stream like Arts. Choosing Engineering is entirely your choice. However here, the advantage of doing Engineering would be that in case you do not clear the very competitive IPS exam, by being an engineer the doors for private jobs in engineering would be available to you. For this, you should score at least first class in engineering.
If you are extremely passionate about being an IPS Officer, you can continue with BSc and concentrate more on IPS studies by joining a good coaching class after 12th for thorough preparation, practice and confidence building.

Hell Sanjay.. The basic qualification for civil service exam is to get pass mark in any graduation. So both BA and B.Tech degree will make you eligible to appear for Civil exams. You can choose the course based on your interest. BA courses will help you to read more in the general knowledge and will enable more time for CSE preparation
