As you have mentioned you have completed your 2nd year with 58 %.And now you are in 3rd year in which you have to read core subject like geotechnical , surveying, transportation ,structural analysis , steel structures , etc.this play a vital role in competition as well as in your interview.You will need to study these subject with deep concept.Then after you can prepare for competition exam like GATE .ESE,etc.
There are many scope after completing engineering, it all depends on you whether you like to work as technical member or non technical member. You can give GATE can appear many PSUs and work as assistant manger/junior manger at fresher level or pursue M.tech in IITs/IISc or in reputed university in india which will add value to your career.
And if you are interested to work in private sector , you can apply L&T, JSW Infrastructure, IRB Infrastructure,etc
And if you are serious insterested to give GATE, you can go for summer coaching classes or one year programme after completion of your b.tech.
