Dear Aspirant, as a food technologist, you have a bright career opportunities. Food technologists are employed by a variety of public and private sectors including food manufacturing and retail companies, universities, research institutions and consultancies.

A food technologist can or have the opportunities to work in a wide area of settings, such as kitchen, factories, laboratories and offices. Therefore the responsibilities may vary but includes;
Liaising with market staff
Generating new products ideas
Evaluating and inspecting suppliers
Ensuring that stringent food safety standards are met
Identifying and choosing the products from the suppliers
Monitoring the use of additives
Controlling production hygiene and quality control standards.
Testing and examining the food and related samples
And writing reports, submission to concerned person or to your superiors.
There are reasonable opportunities for advancement into senior technological / managerial positions , providing that employees are able to change employers or to relocate if necessary.

As you have mentioned a good start up. A good start up depends upon your qualification, if you are a simple graduate then the opportunities will be limited and you have to start the career from beginning. For a graduate the opportunities will be more in private sector, especially in food manufacturing industry.
If you are a post graduate (obviously with a specialized subject) then again chances will be more in private industries. Here you will be given preferences over a simple graduate. Reason being that you are more qualified and you must be having more technical knowledge compared to a food technology graduate.

In India, the opportunities for a food technologist is huge, you should try to explore the possibilities in food manufacturing industries, food exporting industries and food preserving industries.
